Start
Starting from Monteluco di Spoleto or Patrico, you can take several trails leading outside Spoleto, steeped between secular woods and wandering little villages
Patrico was an ancient villa on the road Spoleto – Ancaiano; the oldest part dates back 1500.
The path crosses Forca delle Porelle and runs through Castelmonte,Le Cese, Sensati e Ceselli.
In the Middle
Along the road farms, hermitages, and sacred burial. The journey is pleasant even though the mule track isn’t easy, with ups and downs.
Take the path for Le Cese in the south-east direction following a beautiful mule track indicated by yellow-blue and white-red signs. The road goes almost in the middle of a dense forest. After a small climb, it follows through the hillside on the Forcella di Castelmonte, 950 m. Continue to going down on a very clear trail you’ll arrive at Sensati, an ancient abandoned village, invaded by vegetation for a few years.
Finish Line
Really amazing the little church of San Francesco; once in Castelmonte, an heartbreaking panorama with the Fionchi valley below.
This is a “special protection area”: its lands are in fact populated by rare species, such as the royal eagle and the coxide.
To join Ceselli, you take beautiful paths in the shade of the woods and you can admire the profiles of some mountains such as the Coscello and Monte Solenne.
The name Ceselli, like that of the nearby villa of Cese in the municipality of Spoleto, is probably derived from the Latin caedere, which means cut and dissect. Oral tradition attributes the foundation to the feudalist Cesello, mityzing the high-medieval origin of the castle erected in defense of the abbey of S. Pietro in Valle, entrusted to the lords of Ceselli, vassals of the dukes of Spoleto.
